Medical Malpractice Complaint Filed Against Nevada Doctor

Recently, the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners filed a complaint against a physician for
medical malpractice. The physician, Dr. Clifford Carol, performed medical procedures at the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada.
In the claim, the Board charged the Dr. Carol with four counts of malpractice that resulted from the inadequate care he provided to a patient with hepatitis C. Due to his failure to provide appropriate care, he placed other patients at risk for becoming infected with the virus.
The complaint, which was announced earlier today, states that Dr. Carol failed to, "exercise the skill or diligence or use the methods originally exercised under the same circumstances by physicians in good standing in the same specialty or field when a patient contracted hepatitis C."
There are 14 physicians practicing medicine at the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada. Both state and federal officials claim that staff regularly took part in unsafe medical practices between March 2004 and January 11, 2008.
Due to the neglectful treatment from medical staff at the Center, nearly 53,000 patients had to be notified that they might have been exposed to Hepatitus C, Hepatitus and HIV.
The medical board has also filed medical malpractice claims against two other physicians, Dr. Dipak Desai and Dr. Eladio Carrera. Both have been connected with the reported Hepatitus C outbreak and both have had their licenses suspended pending the investigation by the medical board.
The physicians' hearings are expected to take place in the beginning of 2009.
