A New Hampshire doctor was fined and ordered to take several classes after being investigated by the state Board of Medicine. The doctor, R.G., practices internal medicine at a clinic in Laconia and was sued for medical malpractice as part of a wrongful death lawsuit in 2010. A second complaint involved another alleged instance of misdiagnosis and failure to diagnose. The 2010 lawsuit involved an incident where a patient came to R.G. for treatment of a black lesion on his shoulder. The doctor removed it and said it was noncancerous without sending it to pathology for confirmation.
The patient died a year later of skin cancer (the board ruled that it was uncertain if the patient's death resulted from delayed diagnosis or not). The second malpractice complaint concerned a patient that came to R.G. with headaches. The doctor prescribed what was described as an inadequate dose for possible Lyme disease treatment as well as a failure to recognize the side effects of a drug that was prescribed to the same patient to supposedly treat the headaches.
R.G. was recently ordered by the New Hampshire Board of Medicine to take classes on cancer diagnosis and drug prescribing practices. He was also fined $3,000 as part of the reprimand. Reports did not state what settlement or compensation, if any, was received by those with cases against the doctor.
