Cancer Misdiagnosis
Cancer misdiagnosis is a fairly common form of medical malpractice. This occurs when a doctor or medical professional fails to diagnose cancer or provides a diagnosis when it is too late. This may occur due to an error or oversight in reviewing MRI or x-ray results, or other forms of negligence or wrongdoing on the part of a doctor.
A doctor has an obligation to his/her patient to properly evaluate symptoms in order to determine what illness or disease a patient may be suffering from. This may include referring a patient to a specialist if the symptoms are out of the doctor's scope of knowledge or ability.
Particularly in the case of certain forms of cancer, such as breast cancer, an early diagnosis can make all the difference in the patient's ability to recover and lead a normal life. As such, a patient may be able to file a medical malpractice claim for cancer misdiagnosis in order to seek recovery for medical expenses and more.
